Pastor Charles M. Tilghman, Sr. was born of the union between
Mr. John and Mrs. Floretta Tilghman on April 29, 1948. He felt the
pull of God at a very early age and accepted the call to salvation in
September 1979, at the Mother Church of God in Christ. He received
his spiritual guidance under the leadership of Pastor Ross B. Rainey.
Feeling the anointing of God on his life, he became extremely active
in the ministry. He has served and participated in many ministries and organizations including choir member, Prison Outreach, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and Deacon. Pastor Tilghman sought knowledge of Christ and enrolled in The Manna Bible Institute in Philadelphia, PA, and Jamison Bible College. He graduated with honors in 1988 with a Bachelors Degree in Theology and also received a certificate of Evangelical Training.
During his early years Pastor Tilghman received his spiritual training at the Mother Church of God in Christ in Wilmington, DE, and Church on the Rock in New Castle, DE. In January 1989, Pastor Tilghman became an Ordained Elder at Church of the Living Word in Wilmington, DE. He served faithfully in this position for many years, until the Holy Spirit gave him a new assignment in the Kingdom of God.
In 1999 Elder Tilghman accepted his calling as Pastor of The Potter’s House Ministries and the church was established in June of that same year. On the very first Sunday Service souls were saved and about fifteen members joined the ministry in Rock Hall, Maryland. Less than two years later The Potter’s House Ministries purchased the old VFW building at 8814 Fairlee Road, Chestertown, MD along with the additional properties. In 2004 God enlarged his territory again adding a new sanctuary and Pastoral Office. Pastor Tilghman was elevated to the office of Bishop on April 21, 2007.
Bishop Charles Tilghman is a man after God’s own heart and he has a genuine love for the people of God. He strongly desires to see “lost sheep” come back into the fold. He has taken an active role in the Kent County Community and desires to see it grow and thrive. He became the President of the local Kent County NAACP Branch and is working to build better relationships within the community. Bishop Tilghman works hard to see the people of God’s Kingdom united in the mission of saving souls. To that effect he initiated “Soul Fest” Souls for Christ Festival in 2012, which unites all local church denominations together to win Souls for Christ through song, praise, testimony, worship, and the Word of God.
Bishop Tilghman is married to his life partner, Lady Shirley Tilghman, who is his “rib” and greatest supporter. He is the father of several natural children and the spiritual father of many. He believes in preaching the truth and teaching us how to live a Godly life by example. He is an honest man of God who believes in laboring for, serving, and challenging the people of God.
